Muscle Wire Actuated Insect Robot Plastic Parts

This is a first pass at the plastic parts for Squito-style muscle wire actuated robot. It is BIG for a muscle wire bot and I haven't worked out all of the forces yet. Latter versions will probably have lightening holes and may be scaled down.The pivot group is designed for the Makerbot Cupcake CNC and is entered in the current Make contest. The horizontal pin holes will still need to be drilled.The rest of the bot can be cut using a small CNC router.The model is in SketchUp. I plan to export STL files to FreeMill to create the G-code.This is a first pass done mostly to improve SketchUp skils. Hershey Fonts in SVG

Making text for Unicorn or EggBot plots isn't always a fun process. Most tools require you to convert text into paths, and even then you get the outlines of shapes, which can often turn messy at small sizes.mifga pointed me towards the Hershey fonts[1]. They're a set of fonts for vector plotters named after creator Dr. A. V. Hershey who made them for the National Bureau of Standards.These files are in a weird, weird, format. But after some normalizing, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, I was able to write some code to parse them and spit them back out as SVG! Now you can use these fonts in your Unicorn drawings.Each SVG contains a layout of one of the Hershey fonts. The hershey_svg.zip file below contains all of the SVG files. The hershey.zip file contains the (cleaned up) original .jhf files. math-drawing.svg is just an example of using these glyphs, including scaling and stretching. Insulator retainer

Our insulator retainer acrylic part broke when we hit a blob of plastic. Record Player Lid Hinge

A part to fix a broken lid hinge on an old Sony record player.Recently I got a record player from a garage sale. It works perfectly, except that one of the hinges that holds up the lid was broken. This is a very simple tree I designed to go with the Thing1 family I printed from thing: 2958 by Zomboe.It is also a test of an ANSYS CLASSIC (tm) to .stl converter macro I wrote for ANSYS classic structural analysis program. The coarse faceting is due to the limits of the ANSYS Ed educational version of ANSYS that I used at home.
