A small printable Van de Graaff generator.Designed to use common household parts, once you have the printed parts...The MakerBot is currently not cooperating so I haven't tested this yet. The prototype it's based on was made of pvc pipe and was about twice as tall. It generated around 6kV (old possibly uncalibrated electrostatic voltmeter) and visible 2" sparks. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4667 Original creator: jtbarclay

This experimental motor is another attempt at building a printable actuator. The advantage this design might have over a motor like this one http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:11164 is that it does not use magnets. This is not really a practical motor, but others interested in this topic might be able to build on this design. It was designed for use with this electromagnet http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9608 and actually operated for a very brief moment before the electromagnet burned out. The electromagnet is driven by a pulsed DC current (a square wave at 5 to 10 Hz). With each pulse, the arm is attracted to the electromagnet, and it advances the ratchet wheel by one tooth. Gravity returns the arm to its rest position. The motor sits in the funny-looking wheel stand so that different inclinations can be tried. This is a simple way to adjust the return force on the arm. A video of the motor running with a hand-wound electromagnet can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqnEIj00C6kThe electromagnet uses magnet wire and a half-inch steel bolt as a core. I did not count the turns, but it is just a simple old electromagnet. It draws a few amps at 6V. There is a steel washer glued to the moving arm.The arrangement of ratchet wheel and pawls was inspired byhttp://www.thingiverse.com/thing:329There are some other ratchet motor designs like this onehttp://www.thingiverse.com/thing:946and this one http://vimeo.com/3169018There are lots of other actuator ideas listed on theReprap Actuator Fabrication Pagehttp://reprap.org/wiki/Actuator_Fabrication --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:11858 Original creator: mattmoses

This holiday season, why not have yourself a gingerbread cookie in the shape of the only museum in New York City exclusively devoted to contemporary art. A new iconic shape in the NYC skyline, the New Museum was designed by SANAA in 2007 and continues to be a place of ongoing experimentation and a hub of new art and new ideas.Go to http://www.thingiverse.com/NewMuseumChallenge for more info about how you can get your thingiverse design on display in New Museum's front window. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:11772 Original creator: NewMuseumChallenge

For some reason I didn't want to stick the LEDs onto my Z stage with sticky back. I wanted them to be easily removable for repair or replacement. So, rather than just stick them to some material that I attached to the z stage, I made this thing. There are dovetailed slots that you can slide the LEDs into and you don't have to use the adhesive at all (it would probably be trick to use it if you wanted to). There are slots on either side that go under the extruder mount bolts and one in the back if you want to add another nut and bolt. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10916 Original creator: jag

After a day playing around in the Interactive Parametrics seminar I came up with a little suite to make STL's based on simple rotated geometry. The program doesn't make allowances for internal geometry, so it might print with unintentional infill. Take it for a spin and let me know what you think. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6576 Original creator: gianteye

A stepper motor wire winder. Great for creating electromagnet coils, and other cool stuff. In the future it would be cool to have some sort of a guiding arm to do precision spaced coils, and a wire cut off/coil slide off/new coil start mechanism. But this should get people who know how a proper wire wrapping machine should work to start thinking. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:12267 Original creator: Hurtzmyhead

This is a generic ring with pave diamonds.... lots and lots of diamonds and lots and lots of prongs. The stl file had almost 300,000 facets on it. It's about 83 Megs when unzipped. I only put diamonds on one side so that, hopefully, there would be no need for supports for the prongs.I was thinking it would be cool to print this file out on a Cupcake and then print it out on a Thing-o-matic (when it comes out) to compare the resolutions.I made it in a CAD package called Firestorm (which is built on a CAD package called SpaceClaim). If anyone wants the SpaceClaim file, just ask. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4794 Original creator: wholestory

Share your voice. Save your voice. This thing is part of a DIY megaphone to acoustically amplify your voice. It's great for gatherings where electronic amplification is forbidden. All you need is a coffee cup, some card stock, and the printable MIC CHK (microphone check) clip. Once assembled, like the movie directors of yore, you can make yourself heard loudly and clearly.http://youtu.be/hlzPJrGIbToPrint out a bunch and bring them to your next gathering!Share your voice. Yup, outside the buffet at the Excaliber Joli took 3D scans of us and burned us a cd. This really needs some cleaning up and a backside to be solid, but I\'m really impressed with the scan. It got the texture of the argyle lines on my sweater!Update: It's been on my agenda to print myself out and so I've uploaded an edited version.
