WilliamAAdams suggested, quite rightly, that the various extrusion parameters I've been doodling with could be controlled by functions... and I pointed out that the thing being extruded could be any 2D shape at all.As a semi-practical application of these two ideas, this is a four-blade propeller made by extruding the union of a square and four rectangles while scaling that union according to the cosine of the extrusion height (with some twist thrown in, of course). The layers are 1/4 mm thick. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8688 Original creator: Function: Propeller by syvwlch

This is a four color geometric pattern for plotting on eggs with the Eggbot. The SVG drawing has a height of 800 pixels and has an aspect ratio appropriate for plotting on eggs. To adjust for plotting on spheres, rescale the vertical size to a height of 1200 pixels. Then remove rows so as to obtain the desired vertical height (e.g., 1000 pixels).Plotting this drawing successfully requires a high degree of plotting accuracy (e.g., to prevent unwanted registration problems). So, be sure to carefully load your egg with the correct tension. The included Python file is the Python code to generate the basic drawing with dimensions 1200 x 3200. In Inkscape, I then rescaled the vertical dimension by 63.333% so as to get an aspect ratio suitable for drawing on eggs. (66.666% might seem more apropos, but I wanted to be a tad shorter than 800 pixels and hence 63.3333%) --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5863 Original creator: dnewman

This is a printable First aid kit container, sized per the US Forest Service Standard 6170-6H: http://www.fs.fed.us/t-d/programs/fire/documents/0006/6170_6H.pdfThis is a Type I, personal first aid kit. You could buy a complete kit from somewhere, but you probably have most of the contents under your bathroom sink - if so, you can print yourself (and friends and family) a handy case.Per the forest service document the kit should contain:3x Povidone iodine swabs2x 2" by 2" Gauze pads2x 2" by 3" Non-stick pads6x 1" by 3" Woven adhesive bandages4x 1/2" by 2-3/4" Butterfly bandages1 roll 2" x 4 yards elastic1 pair Non-latex gloves1 Mouth-to-Mouth barrier1 Towelette1 Biohazard bag1 roll 1/2" x 2.5 yards Adhesive Tape2x 4" by 4" Moleskin1 Face Mask2 packets Aspirin (2 tablets)2 packets Acetaminophen (2 tablets)You can fill it with that or not, of course. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4319 Original creator: pandelume

A simple fork, and equally simple spork which can be printed without support on a makerbot. It is nearing the quality of the forks you can get for free with your french fries, but will give you the warm fuzzy feeling of printing something on your own.Public domain. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8248 Original creator: relet

C60 based structure comprised of Pentagon and Hexagon plates connected to center core by coil springs. I first designed this in 2001. Feel free to download and build I made one error on this design, the lack of filleting on the "coil to plate core junction" and "plate junctions" will reduce its resistance to fracture from cyclic deformations. However in Nylon it works fine.Always be generous with fillets for surfaces undergoing cyclic tensile stress - especially at the acute apex of the junction.with springs always over model position as typically they will creep deform to a stable state after initial cyclingNote it will Bounce just like a rubber ballsend me photos - enjoy ! This is a 3-digit, base-10 register for an electromechanical computer I'm working on. It is stepper-driven, and works like a 3-digit counter, counting from 000-999 before rolling over. When all three digit wheels read '0-0-0', 3 reed switches will close and a circuit will be completed to detect the condition. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:15346 Original creator: chris

This is an extended Z axis for a Makerbot Cupcake using LM8UU linear bearings and 8mm rods. It currently prints to a smidge under 200mm. The idea was to design this around a stiff spine for support using as few parts as possible.Although this works great, it is a work in progress and I plan to replace the threaded rod from the original Z axis with an Acme rod sometime in the next few weeks. Even my least wobbly threaded rod is so wobbly that it still has an effect! --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:14610 Original creator: Zydac

New design contest. All submissions need to use bearings in some way to enable the printable side of the submission to do something cool/neat/funny/novel.So the last contest that required magnets didn't receive much attention and was poorly timed (ended on a holiday weekend). I'm supplying more time and money for this one so hopefully there will be a bigger turn out. I would like to do more of these contests but will probably lose interest if there are too few entries.Fido, if you are reading this check your email so I can get you the money from the last contest. Thanks to tmophoto ($15) and Bo L. ($50) for helping up the prize money. --- Imported from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4163 Original creator: pattywac
